Night sky safari

The astronomy night sky safari is a relaxed and highly informative outside tour of the skies above Fiordland and Southern New Zealand. It combines historic and modern astronomy, with a strong New Zealand and Maori theme including how to find and use the iconic Southern Cross. Your guide will take you to an astronomy observatory site offering commanding views of the land and skyscape. Small groups ensure that there is plenty of viewing time through our powerful telescope and guests also receive their own set of binoculars for the duration for the trip.

 Astronomy Stardome

A portable, full-dome digital planetarium (the first of its kind in New Zealand) represents the latest in digital technology. Join your host on a journey of discovery as you are guided through the universe in an immersive, interactive experience. This live presentation gives you the opportunity to ask questions as you are taken though the infinite vastness of space. Groups are limited to around 20 people to keep the event personal, while informal seating allows you to sit or lie down.

Astronomy Stardome Fee

The Stardome is located at the Real Journeys Te Anau Community Events Centre. Bookings MUST be made in advance as showing times vary and there is no office on site. Payment can be made by cash, Visa or Mastercard and will be collected on trip departure. The Astronomy Stardome is a cheap night time activity that the whole family can enjoy.
